Pileated Woodpecker
Check out the headgear! The Pileated Woodpecker is a big, loud, dashing black and white bird topped off with a flaming red crest. The largest woodpecker in North America, it hangs out in forests where it loves to excavate rotten wood, making distinctive rectangular-shaped holes, to get at its favourite food – Carpenter ants. Once rare thanks to deforesting, for the last 100 years the Pileated Woodpecker has been coming back and if you’re lucky you might spy one on the outskirts of cities. But why wait – ours is ready to see right now.

Chickadee
Winner of the 2020 ‘Battle of the Metalbirds’ and all up one of North America’s most popular birds… it’s the super-cute Chickadee. These cool little birds get their name from their distinctive “chick-a-dee-dee-dee” call. The more “dees” they add, the more agitated they’re feeling. The less “dees”, the happier. Did you know that everywhere else in the world it’s called a ‘tit’? With its oversized round head, tiny body, and curiosity about everything, including us, no-one was ever disappointed to see a Chickadee. That goes for Metalbird ones too.

Blue Jay
What a sight for sore eyes is the gorgeous blue, white, and black Blue Jay in your garden? The name ‘jay’ comes from being very chatty by nature, but Blue Jays are also known for their intelligence and tight family bonds. You can tell a lot about how a Blue Jay is feeling from its crest. Crest up means it’s excited or aggressive. Crest out like a brush, scared. Crest down, relaxed. We’ve made our with perky crest up, ‘cos its excited to be coming to your place.

Hummingbird
Hummingbirds are so cool! With over 300 varieties to pick from we’ve modelled ours on the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird. This little fella weighs in at a whopping 0.1oz which is about 35% less than the weight of a nickel! But don’t let their size fool you… they’re ferocious and will happily attack Jays, Crows and even Hawks infringing on their patch. When hovering their wings flap up to 200 times/second and their heart pumps 1,200 times/minute. To fuel this, they eat over half their body weight a day in sugar! Is there a bird out there that packs more punch? We don’t think so and having one permanently in your backyard will remind you of just how amazing our world is!
